Hard Drive Shredding

Shredding is not just for paper anymore.

CBS news did a story on April 19th showing how hard drives in copy machines (that's right, copy machines) were used to gain personal information from a health insurance company.

At Eagle Secure Shredding, we have been in the information security business for some time, and it was refreshing to see that, finally, people we beginning to see that personal data was not just at risk when it was on paper.

We have offered a hard drive shredding solution for some time at our location, using a dedicated, specially designed hard drive shredder, but now we have the capability to shred hard drives, Black Berry's, PDA's, RSA tokens or any other electronic media at your location.

Give us a call today at 770-619-5300 and let us explain the process to you, and see how we can help you keep your data even more secure.

Community Shred Day a Huge Success

On January 24th, Eagle Secure Shredding along with Resurgens Bank held a Community Shred Day to benefit Northlake Community Alliance.

The event was a great success, with over 200 cars arriving, and nearly 12,000 pounds of old bank statements, checks and other confidential information was securely shredded and recycled.

Many thanks to the people who supported the event and donated to Northlake Community Alliance, and a special thanks to Resurgens Bank for organizing the event and making their parking lot available.

Tax Documents found in a Dumpster ... again.

It happened again. This time in Atlanta.

From Fox News Atlanta: "Private personal information was found in a dumpster Tuesday. Everything from tax returns to mortgage applications from a midtown accountant's office were found and state investigators said the documents should have been shredded." [The full story is linked at our website, at www.eagleshred.com ]

This is yet another case of documents containing personal information found in a dumpster. Nobody seems to know how the documents got there, but they were found by a chap that was looking through dumpsters for cardboard to take to the recycle facility. Fortunately for everyone, he was an honest person.

Stories like this continue to surface, and highlight why you should have a document destruction policy in place that mandates the ON SITE destruction of all sensitive material. While the accountant in question in this story may indeed have relied on someone to dispose of the documents, this could have been avoided if he had used an on site shredding service that provided a secure chain of custody and a certificate of destruction.

If you are not shredding today, or trying to do it in house, please give Eagle Secure Shredding a call. We can evaluate your needs, and put together a shredding policy for you, and provide you with the level of service you need. If you ever do have a security breach, it would be better if you could tell the jury that you had a specific documented shred policy in place, and show how it was followed, rather than tell them that you shredded when you had some free time. We guarantee it!

Taking Toxins out of the office

Eagle Secure shredding has decided that we are going to exclusively provide formaldehyde free security consoles. It might not seem like much, but we decided that the extra cost was worth it to us and our customers.

All Source Manufacturing is the only manufacturer of formaldehyde free security consoles, that also are made from 25% recycled content. We partnered with them earlier this year when we decided to offer these consoles exclusively.

Many people see security consoles in their office, and don't give them a second thought, but unless they are the Duraflex green consoles, they are sitting there off-gassing formaldehyde, for which there is no safe exposure limit. Don't you think you might want to look into changing that?

Have a look at the press release on our website eagleshred.com/news or have a look at the services we offer at eagleshred.com/services

Oh, and by the way, if you are looking to become LEED certified, these containers help with points to that certification.
